In a world of shifting circumstances, surprise detours, and uncertain futures, it's easy to wonder if there's any real order to life at all. We make plans, set goals, and chase timelines, only to be rerouted by unexpected events that leave us feeling lost and confused and asking some serious questions.
What’s the point of all this?
Why am I here?
What am I supposed to do, now?
But what if, behind every twist and turn, there is something else at work? What if the closed doors, the missed opportunities, and the chaos we perceive, is part of a master plan, designed and curated by God Himself?
I have great news. It is! And you don’t need to be so concerned. You definitely don’t need to ask any of these questions.
We could learn some lessons from Luke 10:41-42 – ‘My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details! There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.’
And what was this thing Mary discovered? It was to be present with Jesus, to sit at His feet and to learn from Him.
Well, I suppose now we all feel a little sheepish. We’re all so guilty of worry, guilty of wanting to remain in control and guilty of not trusting in Him fully! Say it with me… ‘sorry Lord.’
Let’s lean in a little more, what about these master plans?
God is not only the Creator of the universe, but He is a divine planner who intricately weaves every detail of our lives together. This isn’t just a bigger story, it’s a best seller. Better than a #1New York Times best seller.
Nothing is wasted. Nothing is accidental. Not even the bad stuff.
With eternal vision, God arranges our lives like an artist assembling a gallery, with every piece purposefully placed for a grand unveiling in due time… at the ‘appointed’ time.
In Jeremiah 29:11 we have such hope in this promise: ‘For I know the plans I have for you says the Lord. They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and hope.’
The Divine Blueprint
From the very beginning, God has operated with intention. The universe wasn't thrown together in a random act of power, it was formed through careful design. In Genesis, we see structure: light before land, land before life, rest after creation. Every detail had a sequence. Every step had meaning.
This same order is reflected in the way He interacts with our lives. Just as an architect follows a blueprint or a curator designs a gallery, God builds and positions with purpose. He doesn't simply react to our circumstances - He precedes them, planning the end from the beginning.
Isaiah 46:10 reminds us: "I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come. I say, 'My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please.'"
Examples of Divine Planning
Throughout Scripture, we find powerful examples of how God's plan unfolds, often in ways people never expected:
- Joseph was betrayed, enslaved, and imprisoned, yet each painful stop was a step toward the palace where he would save nations.
- Esther, an orphaned exile, was positioned as queen at just the right time to deliver her people.
- Moses, a fugitive with a speech impediment, was chosen to lead a nation to freedom.
In the moment, none of these lives looked ‘put together’ but we learn and see over time, that the fingerprints of God are all over their stories.
In our own lives, we often don't get the luxury of seeing the full picture immediately and sometimes, we don’t see the grand master plan come to fruition or it plays out in an unexpected way – it can often be unveiled in the generations that come after us. But if we look closely, we can see signs of divine intervention all along the way, moments that didn't make sense then, but brought us to where we are now and only God knows what’s next.
The Role of Waiting and Trust
One of the hardest parts of following God's plan is the waiting. We want results, clarity, and progress. And if we’re honest, we want them now! But God often works in the hidden places - in the silence, in the delays, and in the unknown. In fact, that’s where His best work is done. Even when you don’t know what’s going on, you can trust that He is preparing you.
To trust God as the curator of your life means believing He is arranging things purposefully, even when you don't see it. It means resting in Proverbs 3:5-6: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight."
Waiting isn't a sign of God's absence; there is much going on in the background!
Living in the Plan
So how do we live in alignment with God's master plan?
- Pray for guidance - but yield, with total surrender, to His plan. Pray ‘what would You have me do, Lord?’ Psalm 143:10 says this ‘Teach me to do Your will, for You are my God. May Your gracious spirit lead me on level ground.’
- Give it up. Your timeline, that is. His timing is always better than ours.
Isaiah 60:22 says this: ‘…at the right time, I, the Lord, will make it happen.’
- Obey the small things. Often, the big picture becomes clear when we take the next faithful step. In Hebrews 11:1 we read ‘Now faith is the reality of what is hoped for, the proof of what is not seen.’
- Reflect often. Look back and trace how God has already worked in your past and see what He is doing in your present. Psalm 105:4 reminds us to ‘Seek the Lord and His strength; seek His face always.’
God isn't asking you to map out your entire journey, in fact, we often fall flat on our faces when we do things in our own strength. God is asking you to trust Him with the map He has already designed. It’s drawn up, gone to print and is sealed with precious blood of Jesus. It’s fully copyrighted by Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Trust the Curator
Think of a museum or an art gallery. Each piece intentionally chosen, placed, and lit to highlight its beauty and meaning. Each piece has it’s own story.
Now imagine your life like this. Some moments feel messy, some unfinished, some even painful. But in the hands of the Divine Curator, every piece matters. Every season is sacred.
God is not a random mover of pieces. He is the master planner - the One who sees the whole when we only see a part. And in His hands, your story becomes part of something greater, something eternal.
Rest in that. Trust in that. And take heart - the Curator is still at work.
